Gareth O'Hara - Chef Q&A

What is it about the industry that you love the most?

It’s got to be the diversity. I love the fact that you can work and learn so much from people from all over the world.

Favourite chef dead or alive?

Easily Marco Pierre White. He’s the original rock and roll chef and I love his no-nonsense approach to food.

Greatest meal of your life?

City Social, London. My wife took me for my birthday about 10 years ago. It’s a meal that stands out in my memory, the food was insane and the views over the London skyline were amazing.

How does it feel to represent Philadelphia?

It’s feels great to be associated with the brand, the product is so versatile and has excellent qualities for cooks of all abilities. I’m proud and humbled that I was given the opportunity.

Biggest issue affecting the industry? And what can be done?

I think the health and wellbeing of chefs and mental health especially. Chefs are under a lot of pressure on a daily basis. Fortunately there is more and more support for chefs who are suffering with mental health problems and awareness is being raised all the time. I really hope it continues that way.

Favourite cuisine?

Japanese. I am obsessed with the flavours of Japan. The dishes are so well balanced, sweet, salty, sour, and spicy. They really do pack it all in. Everything tastes so fresh and their street food is some of the best in the world.
